How to put songs on iPod without iTunes
Notice to iPhone users
Even with an alternative iPhone manager, you still need iPod Touch / iPhone "drivers" on your Computer
These allow your Computer to interact with your Apple iPhone
If iTunes was never installed on your Computer, just follow this procedure to install iPhone drivers without installing iTunes
- Get the drivers from here
- Place them into C:\Windows\system32\drivers
- Connect your iPhone to your Computer
- Press Windows key + R
- Enter services.msc and OK
- Look for the status of the "Apple Mobile Device Service"
- If not started, right-click on it and click "Start". If already started, right-click and click "Refresh"
You should now be able to manage your iPhone with any alternative iPhone manager and proceed with the rest of this tutorial
If not, your last chance is to install and uninstall iTunes, which will leave USBAAPL.SYS drivers and Apple Mobile Device Support on your Computer
Alright guys, in order to put songs on iPod without iTunes, we'll use a superlight and super unobtrusive iPod manager
There are several of them out there, but I wanted to select one that satisfied the following criterias:
- Free ( cool ! )
- Portable ( = does not require an installation and, hence, can't mess up the Computer )
- Compatible with all iPod versions, including iPhone 4.1
- Made by a reputable company and, hence, kept up-to-date with new iPod models and new firmware versions
The one I chose is
Manager Download | ( advanced users: zip download )
Install
Installing the program is a no-brainer
If you opted for the zip version, make sure to extract both the CopyTransManager.exe and CopyTransManager.ris files
Use
Precision: an iPod manager directly manages your iPod Library, as opposite to iTunes that manages your Computer Library and then synchronizes your iPod with it
Therefore, what you see in an alternative iPod manager are your iPod songs, not the ones of your Computer
Using the program is generally obvious:
- Drag songs from your Computer to the program to add them to your iPod
- Create new playlists by clicking the "+" button in the playlists panel
- Double-click a playlist name to rename it
- Right-click and select "Delete" to remove a song from your iPod
Hints:
To select more than one song, keep the Ctrl key down while clicking on songs
You can also select a range of tracks by keeping the Shift key down and clicking on the first and last songs you want to select
- Right-click and select "Edit" to change the song info
Before you close the program, don't forget to click the "Update" button to apply the changes to your iPod
I personally recommend to activate the "Immediately apply changes to iPod" option in the "Settings" tab
That's it!
Let me know if there is something yet to be improved
